About the project
We built a new early learning and childcare centre at Murtoa College in the Shire of Yarriambiack.
The Victorian Government-owned centre is run by Early Learning Victoria. The centre provides long day care, Three-Year-Old Kindergarten and programs, with space for up to 57 local children in the centre each day.
It also includes a Maternal and Child Health consulting room for local families and a carpark.
Building the centre at the college will help some parents avoid the double drop-off. It makes childcare and early learning accessible and convenient for working parents and carers. It can also make the transition to school easier for some children.
Visit the for more information about the government operated centres or learn more about enrolling your child at the .
Your new centre’s name
In consultation with local Traditional Owners, Early Learning Victoria Bani Walup (pronounced bar-ne wal-up) was chosen as the name of the new early learning and childcare centre at Murtoa College. Bani Walup is a Wergaia word meaning little blue tongue lizard.
We used Murtoa College Early Learning and Childcare Centre as an interim name while it was being planned, designed, and built.
Funding
This project was funded as part of $3.8 billion allocated for early childhood infrastructure since the 2015–16 State Budget. It supports the delivery of the Victorian Government’s Best Start, Best Life reforms.
