About the project

We built an early learning and childcare centre at Gamadji Primary School.

The Victorian Government-owned centre is run by Early Learning Victoria. It provides long day care and Three- and Four-Year-Old Kindergarten programs with space for up to 130 local children each day.

The centre has outdoor play areas, a maternal and child health consulting room, and a carpark. It also has a community room for meetings and playgroup.

Building the centre at the school will help some parents avoid the double drop-off. It makes childcare and early learning accessible and convenient for working parents and carers. It can also make the transition to school easier for some children.

Visit the for more information about the government-operated centres.

The centre's name

Early Learning Victoria Gamadji (pronounced gah-mah-gee) was chosen as the name. Gamadji is a Woi-wurrung word meaning ‘emerging creeks’ and was provided by the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation.

This centre was previously known as Early Learning Victoria Mickleham South (interim name).

Funding

This project was funded as part of $3.8 billion allocated for early childhood infrastructure since the 2015–16 State Budget. It supports the delivery of the Victorian Government’s Best Start, Best Life reforms.
